Back in the studio

Slowly but surely we are getting closer with the new EP. Tonight we connected the synths and dubs recorded in Copenhagen with the session tracks from our weekend at the castle. Great working with Dennis again and GREAT hearing how the songs are slowly taking form. We really can’t wait to let you have a listen!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Hi everybody who loves drums
In a very few hours we’re stepping into 2012 and we want to end this year with one final blog post about what has happened to Everybody Loves Drums as a band this year. And it certainly has been a ground-breaking year for us, both musical and socially as a band.
Back in June we finished our first EP called Thirds. Actually we did most of the recordings in late 2010, but somehow it took a bit longer for us to settle on both a mixer and a sound. We ended up collaborating with the talented Birk Storm who took the tracks under both good and interesting care. The result was an eye-opener for us and was the main reason why we the last six months really has begun to think about what sound we want as a band!
As a result of all the experience we had with the EP we decided to go away for a week in late July to write new material. Five days in a small cottages by an amazing lake at Silkeborg – beer, wine, cigarettes and A LOT of gear. We ended up writing quite a lot of ideas and started realizing what really worked for us as a band.
In August Simon moved to Copenhagen, which meant a mayor change in how we had to do things as a band. From being a band that rehearsed quite a lot we now had to do things differently and get together once a month for a weekend to practice and write material. In spite of this we actually feel that being intensively together for a whole weekend is more giving than rehearsing once a week for a few hours.
Throughout the fall we wrote a lot of new material and in late October we felt like we had seven strong new tracks that really represented the new and improved E.L.D. It was time to make a new EP! This time we wanted to have a collaborator that not only were a great mixer but also could function as a producer throughout the whole process. We contacted Dennis Ahlgren (Tina Dickow, Vincent Van Go Go etc.) and luckily he said yes! A month later we checked in at Engelsholm Castle to track the basics for our forthcoming EP. It went way better than expected and Dennis and his engineer Allan made this session very intense and productive! All tracks were recorded in just three days.
The last month has been about dubbing some synths and making the tracks sound even better. And we just finished yesterday! Oh yeah… Well we’re not finished yet and we still need to track the vocals, mix the whole thing and then master it. Long way to go but we are getting closer…
And yeah, we also supported Turboweekend the 17th of December – and that was the BEST way to close 2011!!
So as you can see a lot has happened in the year that has passed, however we really can’t begin to describe how much we are looking forward to 2012. We really have a great feeling about it! Great things are comming and we can’t wait to play the new material for you both digital and live…
So from the bottom of our hearts – a big thanks to all of you out there who have listened to us, watched us live, helped us, pushed us, challenged us, inspired us and believed in us! Everybody Loves Drums owe you big time!
